Three Short Novels of Dostoevsky

The Double, an early novel, deals with a man who goes mad and sees his own double. This examination of a split personality is one of the earliest examples of the modern psychological novel and one that had a marked influence on the works of Kafka and others.

Notes from the Underground, written just prior to Doestoevsky's great, long novels, is central to an understanding of his work. 

The External Husband tells the story of a betrayed husband and his slow, subtle, painful revenge upon his wife's former lover.
